As part of JCA’s pursuit to be a local school with international SHS curriculum in English, Math, Science and Social Science areas, SHS teachers were sent to Advanced Placement (AP) Workshops in Singapore, Beijing and Shenzhen in China.
Mr. Habana and Mr. Verdan posed with the famed Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore.
Mr. Kenneth Verdan, Math teacher and Mr. Jonathan Habana, JHS and SHS Social Studies coordinator attended the AP workshop in Singapore American School, Singapore last November 3-4, 2017. Mr. Habana participated in the AP Macro and Micro Economics workshop while Mr. Verdan in the AP Calculus workshop.
When Mr. Habana was asked to share about his AP training experience, he noted that
“I learned a lot from AP Economics (Macro and Micro) on the varied teaching approaches in the field, what the AP Economics curriculum is about among others. Though it was challenging, it motivated to pursue innovative approaches in my instruction to adapt to the changing landscape in education that is at par with schools that offer AP”
Last November 12 and 13, 2017, Ms. Kristine Joy Torela, Math teacher and Ms. Gavrielyn Guinoo, Life Science teacher, participated in the AP Algebra and AP Biology workshops held in Beijing, China. The AP workshops centered on AP curriculum framework, instruction, and assessment. They were also able to benchmark with other AP teachers from other countries.
The last one among the SHS teachers sent for AP training this 2017 was Mr. Shemaiah Pascua, Physical Science teacher. He attended the AP Chemistry workshop in Shenzhen, China last December 9 and 10. Though Mr. Pascua was the lone Filipino participant in the training, he proved to be among the most privileged, as he was able to learn from brilliant international AP trainers and co-participants who had willingly shared their experiences about teaching AP in their schools.
These five (5) SHS teachers are among the growing number of JCA personnel who had been sent to various international conferences and workshops in different countries like the U.S., Vietnam, Korea, Japan, Taiwan among others.
