DLSU STUDENT MEDIA CONGRESS 2014

Last July 25-26, 2014, the De La Salle University hosted the Student Media Congress (SMC), a two-day celebration of empowering media catalysts. It offered both competing and non-competing workshops on a wide range of topics including web  and graphic design, film / video production, magazine layout, social media strategy, news / feature / creative / opinion writing, editorial cartooning, photography, hosting and television production, broadcast journalism, media ethics, crowdsourcing, investigative reporting, blogging, film, hosting, brand management, and a lot more.

The event was also graced by big names in media breakthroughs like Rico Hizon, international news anchor, BBC World News; Santiago Elizalde, Asst. VP-Promo for Manila Broadcasting Company; Howie Severino, VP for Professional Development for GMA Network; Ricky Lee, Creative Manager at ABS-CBN and book author; Internet sensation Ramon Bautista; and TV host Bianca Gonzalez, to name a few.

Seven delegates from JCA attended SMC and participated in the different categories: Jessy Alexandra So (10- Martin Luther)  for Blogging, Ezekiel Young (10-Solomon) for News Writing, Gwendolyn Ang (8-Aristotle)  and Hannah Ang (10-Solomon) for Feature Writing, Denise Joaquin and Shenelle Pamela Lim (10-Martin Luther) for Creative Writing, and Brian Alec Acidera (10-Service) for Editorial Cartooning.

Of the six delegates who attended parallel workshops and joined competitions, Gwendolyn Ang and Hannah Ang won 2nd and 3rd place, respectively, in Feature Writing.

The SMC delegates had an unforgettable experience as they learned from a team of experts from the field of print, broadcasting, and digital media.
