From a “New Normal” to a “New Future”: Understanding COVID-19 Vaccines

On March 22, 2021, Jubilee Christian Academy (JCA) High School Department held a student conference entitled “Understanding COVID-19 Vaccines with Dr. Anna Lisa Ong-Lim” via Zoom. Dr. Ong-Lim, Professor and Attending Pediatrician at the University of Philippines and the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) and the Chief of the Division of Infectious and Tropical Disease at PGH, spoke before the JCA community to share her expertise on infectious disease, specifically COVID-19 and the benefits of getting a vaccine. 

She discussed what COVID-19 is, its  effects to the human body, the emerging variants, and an in-depth look at COVID-19 vaccines. She explained in such a clear manner that both the young and old understood the differences in the composition of the available vaccines being offered. Dr. Ong-Lim emphasized following the safety protocols and gave a timely message on why it is best to get vaccinated once a person has access to it, a safer way to protect oneself and our loved ones from the disease. 

A question and answer portion capped the conference where Dr. Ong-Lim answered the queries of the students, personnel, and parents.

Truly, this conference has educated and enlightened the attendees about COVID-19 and vaccines. This conference was a much needed conversation to remind every attendee that he has a responsibility to protect himself and the people around him as we mitigate the increasing number of infections and as we move toward national and global recovery

Together, let us all make our “new normal” a common practice to make our “new future” a safer place to live in.
