New Normal Thoughts by Mr. Khyte A. Mendoza

COVID 19 has somehow made all of us to think in a different way to be able to surpass the challenges it has brought in 2020, and it will continue to change how we think and how our world operates.

It is difficult and it seems impossible to go back to our lives before the pandemic given that there is a new strain of COVID 19  causing havoc in our lives once again, but  we can change how we view our situation and learn from our past experiences to make the “new” normal a “better” normal.

Here are some ways on how to live our lives in the new normal.

1. Most of the time, when we are  stuck in a situation where the only option is to accept it, we tend to exhaust all our energy just to find solutions to it. We get frustrated and give up if we think that there is no other way to run. Life is made up of different hues and shades, not just black and white, so when faced with ambiguous and incomprehensible colors and hues we have not been used to, consider it as the Lord teaching us to embrace new shades and tones to challenges us to think and act differently. After all, there will always be a rainbow after the rain.

2. Life pre-pandemic is complex in itself, but life during the pandemic is a whole new level of complexities. There are many things that we cannot do the “normal way” like how we did them before–going out of our houses without wearing a mask, attending parties with relatives, or dining out with our friends without bothering about having to be a meter away from them. But this pandemic has also given us an opportunity to rethink and reinvent our situation to make our new normal a better normal to live in. We’ve managed to find a new hobby or interest, uncovered a new talent or skill, acquired new ways of doing things with fresh eyes to see the world around us.

3. We can choose to be the light when everything gets murky and dark. This is not an easy task especially during these times when we may have found ourselves asking how we can shed light for others when we have to face our own battles. We do not have to look very far. A sprinkle of kindness to a single person each day changes everything and makes a whole world of difference. A simple smile to start the day sets the tone for the rest of the week. Choose to be kind to everyone. Be more patient and understanding. Help those who are in need because we do not know what they are going through just like us.

It’s easy to be distracted and find many excuses why we cannot do things especially at a time like this when it can be easy to count what we do not have or what we are missing, but when we begin to think about how God’s grace has gotten us through the last eleven months (and counting), we have every reason to press on and move forward. When Jesus is present, faith, love, and hope happens.
