On January 24, 2020, the Senior High School Students (SHS) together with the SHS personnel engaged in diverse and fun-filled celebrations to welcome the upcoming Chinese New Year.

After having their morning classes, each of the Senior High School sections held their unique celebration programs within their classrooms, featuring various traditional Chinese delicacies and Chinese games.

The Grade 11’s tapped into the Chinese New Year spirit by celebrating with festive activities. Grade 11-Paul showcased a blend of renowned games and the Chinese culture, featuring a Chinese New Year-themed pictionary game. Grade 11-Peter joined in with the fun by partaking in a karaoke session, singing both Chinese and English songs together with some of the SHS faculty. Finally, Grade 11 -Matthew showed their Chinese heritage by playing Chinese mung bean relay and Chinese chess.

The celebration programs of the Grade 12’s did not disappoint as well. Grade 12-Hudson Taylor channeled the true Chinese spirit, featuring Chinese classics, such as the Chinese Garter. Grade 12-Dwight Moody integrated a more Filipino approach, playing the “Calamansi” game, where an individual tries to flick a calamansi off the top of a bottle after being spun ten times. Finally, Grade 12-Martin Luther exhibited their sous chef expertise by preparing Chinese food like siomai, pancit and sweet and sour pork.

All-in-all, the Chinese New Year celebration was successful in channeling the Chinese culture while celebrating the upcoming new year. All of the students, faculty and staff were able to commemorate this day as the year came to a close and as a new one begin.
