7 Important Things I Learned from the COVID-19 Pandemic

Miguel Alfonso Y. Fenix

It is without a doubt that the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is currently inevitable. The whole world is put into quarantine in their own homes to shield themselves from the deadly disease. Because of this, I was put into a state of reflection of what are the important things I learned from this pandemic that I should not take for granted once this virus is eliminated.

1. Rationing food

This is honestly very important. Rationing food allows us to equally proportion our food so that we would not eat too much and too less. This also prevents us the risk of getting the virus because by rationing food, we are saving food,  thus preventing us from going out for groceries.

2. Cleaning hands to save lives

I honestly take this for granted. There are times when I eat without washing my hands or when I receive a package from someone, I always forget to wash my hands after holding it. Because of how dangerous the virus is, I realized that washing hands is extremely essential to avoid the further spread of the virus.

3. Spending more time with family

Before this pandemic started, I, my sibling and other members of the family were very focused on our studies and work. But during this pandemic, I realized that spending time with my family is one of the most important things in life. So I starting spending time with them by watching shows on Netflix with my sibling, helping my mom cook our favorite dish, playing chess with my dad and doing our devotions at night together.

4. Meditating on God’s Word

Not only did I enjoy spending time with my family, but with God as well. This pandemic made me realize that spending time with the Lord gives us peace despite of the panic and chaos this disease has created.

5. Following the government

In spite of the government’s best efforts to eliminate the virus, it is sad to say that it is not going too well, but instead of complaining and disobeying the government’s orders, I learned that we must trust and follow their orders for the safety of everyone.

6. Being productive

Staying in front of my laptop all day, looking at unnecessary things just makes me feel sad because I am not doing anything productive. This pandemic has given me lots of time to be productive by doing school work, reading my favorite  books, decluttering the house and learning a new hobby.

7. Staying hopeful

The increasing number of infected people all over the world and the unavailability of a vaccine that will prevent its human to human transmission may be a hard pill to swallow, but for me, in spite all of these challenges, we must have hope. It may not be the cure to the disease nor may solve any problem this pandemic has unleashed. But I am certain that our hope will give us a leverage to keep going no matter what the aftermath is.
