Answering the Call: TGC Project 2020

By: Kelcey Alyana Ching, 12 Martin Luther

What better gift to give this Christmas than the greatest gift of all, that is, the love of God through Jesus Christ.  The COVID19 pandemic may have put a halt on a number of activities for  Grade 12 students, but through the grace of God, The Great Commission (TGC) project commenced online last December 10 to 12, 2020. TGC aims  to equip students with the skills to live out God’s calling to share the Gospel.

On December 10, 2020, the Grade 12 students logged into their virtual Google Meet room and embarked on the first day of their TGC project led by the volunteers of the Campus Crusade for Christ (Cru) , an organization built to fulfill the Great Commission. The G11 & 12 Praise Team rendered songs of praise which set the stage for Mr. Robert Balibao of Cru who was tasked to  spiritually prepare the students’ hearts for the journey that was ahead.

The TGC proved to be a memorable discipleship experience for the participants. Though online, it provided an interactive platform for discipleship,  where students learned more about Gospel sharing. Among the activities was watching informative videos that were accompanied by short reflections in which the students shared in groups their takeaways.

Other activities included breaking out into small groups where the students shared and discussed their thoughts on messages from Pastor Boyet Pana, Ms. Jairah Perez, Ms. Allyn Joy Tranco, Ms. Ann Caballero, Ms. Dianne Leaban, and Ms. Marie Venice Tongol. Moved by inspiring messages about living radical lives by walking in the Spirit, the sessions inculcated in students the value of spiritual multiplication to further fuel the passion to take on an active role in expanding God’s kingdom.

Cru also introduced GodTools,  a mobile app that consists of e-flashcards brimming with Biblical messages, created especially for those who struggle with starting the ‘gospel talk’. Harnessing GodTools’ potential, the students reached out to their loved ones, friends, family, and even distant acquaintances, to share their testimony of their personal life-changing relationship with God.

December 12, 2020 may have been the final day of the TGC project, but lifelong lessons have certainly been engraved in the hearts of the students who have willingly responded to God’s calling. Regardless of the challenges that surround the new normal, the students were able to manifest the true meaning of  Christmas who is Jesus Christ.

As Matthew 28: 19-20 says: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age,”  This verse has become the participants’ life verse that will be a constant reminder for them to live out the Great Commission.
