Fostering Digital Citizenship in Online Learning

Jubilee Christian Academy (JCA) Senior High School (SHS) Department  held a seminar workshop on Digital Citizenship on September 4 and 7, 2020. This seminar workshop aimed to engage students to be responsible digital citizens who will leave a meaningful impact in the digital world.

The two seminar workshops were lead by Mrs. Nancy R. Senior High School Principal and Mrs. Allyssa Marie Lontoc-Escubil, Life Science Coordinator, alongside Mr. Jonathan Habana, Mr. Shemaiah Pascua and Ms. Mary John Icban as workshop facilitators.

The Digital Citizenship workshop, based on Common Sense Education Curriculum, focused on how to be a responsible digital citizens in the virtual world through these sessions:

  • The Change You Want to See: In this session, the speakers emphasized why students should be conscientious of their digital footprint considering its lasting impact in their lives and possibly in the lives of others. To guide the students as they venture into this digital age, they were left with a challenge question “What kind of mark do you want to leave this world?”

  • The Consequences of Online Hate Speech: In this session, the speakers reminded the students of  Netiquette and emphasized that everyone must be kind and courageous online. Students must think before they click because behind every account or post is a human being who is created in God’s own image and likeness.

  • The seminar workshops were concluded with a Digital Citizen Pledge and with a workshop activity that engaged students on how to apply their insights gained through Google Jamboard and Flipgrid.

Overall, the Digital Citizenship Seminar Workshop was a success. It has positively impacted students to take ownership of their digital lives.
