Hope in Approaching the End Times: A JCA Special Chapel Service

Are volcano eruptions, earthquakes, calamities, and the recent pandemic all signs of the End Times? With all these implicative events, people cannot help but fear for the worst to happen, and therefore dread the period referred to as the End Times. In light of this, the JCA community came together last March 5, 2021, through Zoom to attend a special chapel service aptly entitled, “Are We Living in the End Times?”. The guest speaker, Dr. Stephen G. Tan, the Senior Pastor of Grace Christian Church of the Philippines, was invited by the Christian Formation Department (CFD) to give a talk on Eschatology and give light to its relevance to the present.

In his talk, Dr. Stephen Tan enlightened the school community on the seven biblical signs that would precede the end times: financial instability, moral decay, religious unity, the emergence of satanic activity, knowledge and travel, frequent occurrences of supernatural activities, and the rise of military and political powers. These were shared not for the purpose of instilling fear in the minds of the listeners but to remind them that they are to live their lives with integrity and moral character in accordance with God’s word. He also emphasized the hope that the end times brings to the hearts of every believer, as each one faithfully waits for the promised restoration on the second coming of Christ.

To conclude the event, a question and answer portion was allotted for Dr. Stephen Tan to address the queries sent in by the attendees prior to the talk. After which, Dr. Stephen Tan led the attendees in a time of prayer and dedication as he encouraged and prayed for those who have decided to recommit their lives to God.

The Eschatology event ended with joyful smiles, and peaceful hearts that are strengthened by the Lord’s promise in Titus 2:11, “For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people”. Truly, the promise of the Gospel holds true for those who believe, as “We wait for the blessed hope– the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,” Titus 2:13.
