JCA Participates in DLSU Instructional Odyssey 2020

Jubilee Christian Academy’s Senior High School Department participated in the online Instructional Odyssey workshop of the De La Salle University (DLSU). It was  a five-day event held from October 12 to 16, 2020. JCA was represented by select SHS students; Kelcey Alyana L. Ching and Phoebe Joy S. Uy from 12 Martin Luther, and Kaitlyn L. Shu Too of 12 Hudson Taylor.  JHS and SHS teachers, Mr. Rene C. Guivelondo and Mr. Kenneth F. Verdan also joined the event participated by 200 participants from schools all over the Philippines.

This data science short-course was led by Professor Jennifer Widom, Dean of Stanford University’s School of Engineering. She conducted lectures on Data Analysis and Data Visualization using various softwares such as Google Sheets, Tableau, and Jupyter. She also introduced the fundamentals of manipulating Big Data, which is a promising aspect of modern technology that involves engineering large volumes of information for research purposes.

The discussions were packed with game-based learning where SHS student, Kelcey Alyana L. Ching was awarded the the “Correlation Expert” award for winning a game hosted by Professor Widom during one of the sessions.

The Data Science course was culminated with a warm “Salamat!” from all the participants for Professor Widom who has generously and brilliantly shared her expertise to all of them.
