SHS First Week Hi!

 Jubilee Christian Academy (JCA) Senior High School (SHS) Department  held its first-ever five-day Online Students Orientation via Google Meet. The orientation week is dubbed as, SHS First Week Hi, with the theme, “Triumph Over the Challenges of the New Normal”. The week – long orientation aims to help the students navigate the google classroom and online learning tools, orient them on important information and procedure relevant to their student life, engage students in a seminar-workshop on digital citizenship and learn how to build relationships in a virtual environment.

 

On September 1 to 7, 2020, for Grade 12, and September 2-8, 2020 for Grade 11, various sessions hosted by SHS personnel were held. Watch this short video below that gives an overview of the orientation activities;

  • How to Navigate the Google Classroom: This is a quick start-up guide on how students will join their Google Classrooms, use Google Meet for synchronous learning, and view and gather instructional materials and assignments for asynchronous learning.

 

  • SHS Online Learning Tools– Students were introduced to the SHS Online Learning Tools and were guided on how to use them. The online learning tools include, Pear Deck, Flipgrid, Padlet, and Quizziz. These tools will help SHS Students to be active, independent and collaborative online learners.

 

  • Digital Citizenship: Create Safe, and Responsible Digital Citizens– the lecture-workshop led by Mrs. Nancy Ramos and Ms. Allyssa Escubil alongside Mr. Jonathan Habana, Mr. Shemaiah Pascua and Ms. Mary John Icban as workshop facilitators, provided students with the right skills, perspectives and tools in navigating the online sphere securely and discerningly.

 

  • Homeroom: Building Relationships in a Virtual World: Advisers used this session to help students build relationships through fun and engaging collaborative activities.

 

 

  • University Placement Orientation: To assist G12 students in their  University placement application, the Christian Formation Department (CFD) through the Guidance Area, discussed the application requirements of the top four universities and steps on how to accomplish them. 

 

 

Student Orientations were also held separately for Grade 11 and 12. The orientation started with a devotion by Reverend Joel Pan. It was followed by a message from the  SHS Principal, Mrs. Nancy R. Ramos. Her talk entitled, High Hopes, focused on having the right mindset to usher success during challenging times. Mrs. Ramos also presented the SHS Milestones for S.Y. 2019-2020 which included the roster of personnel who attended international online trainings to gear up for SY 2020-2021, the results of the Advanced Placement Examination in Calculus, Biology, English Language and Composition, Physics 1 and Chemistry, and the success of the first ever SHS Virtual Graduation for Batch 2020. She also introduced the SHS Team, composed of SHS coordinators and teachers.

 

Ms. Ma. Zetha B. Gavino, Level Coordinator, introduced the Online Class categories, presented the guidelines in attendance monitoring,  learning space requirements, class schedule and  communication line for students and personnel.  Ms. Rowena A. Lumahan, Christian Education Coordinator, also discussed the services and programs of the Christian Formation Department (CFD) . The presentation culminated with Student Activities (SA)  presented by  Ms. Kimberly Anne V. Sadinas, SA Coordinator, who discussed pertinent guidelines and offerings of SA for S.Y. 2020-2021.

 

Overall, the SHS First Week Hi was a success. It created an opportunity not only for learning the ropes and gaining relevant skills needed for a smooth transition into online learning, but also an opportunity to build relationships among members of the SHS community.
